Georginio Wijnaldum eyed by Ronald Koeman
Having scored a vital brace to eventually knock FC Barcelona out of Europe in 2018-19, FC Barcelona are no strangers to Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman is one of the most versatile midfielders in Europe, and is known for being able to keep the ball, lay in teammates, combine with forwards, and score goals in big games. It might explain why rumours suggest that new Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman sees the Dutchman as a key signing.
Approaching his 30s and now in the last year of his Anfield deal, Wijnaldum so far has shown a reticence to agree terms with Liverpool. Potentially seeking pastures new after winning the UEFA Champions League and Premier League, Barcelona might look to make a move for a player who has become a major part of the Jurgen Klopp era.
However, with his contract situation it might be the best time to head for the exit at Anfield. Despite impressing, Liverpool are being linked with more technically minded midfielders and could look to make space in the squad by moving on Wijnaldum.
Having given so much to Liverpool, it looks like this could be the end for a player who has become a firm fans favourite. With Barcelona in need of an experienced and consistent midfielder, though, it would make sense to make a move for one of the most reliable midfielders in Europe.
